CIS86 2007 Administrivia : About the Instructor
You might wonder how I came to be up here:
- Career #1 : Computer scientist: I spent most of my career as a researcher at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, the central research labs for HP. I worked on a variety of projects at HP Labs, including 3D environments, broadband services infrastructures, consumer multimedia management, and hypertext systems for software engineering. I have programmed in Lisp (my favorite!), C and C++, Java, and Javascript, not to mention boring languages like COBOL and FORTRAN.
- Career #2 : Innkeeper: owner of Agate Cove Inn for 6.5 years.
- Career #3 : Graphic and Web Designer: I am currently working as a Web and graphic designer. I am a map fiend, and I've published a guidebook for the area, Mendocino Outdoors. I am also a Photographer. I also have created a Web site called MendocinoFun.com, along with 2 other partners. Billed as the Discriminating Guide to Fun and Adventure on the Mendocino Coast, we're trying to build the best guide to the Mendocino Coast. The site is built using the WordPress blogging software.

In the interest of full disclosure, I must say that I am currently a PC user, but I'm not religious about it. More importantly, I am a Dreamweaver user -- not GoLive. I consider GoLive to be an inferior product that is unworthy of Adobe. Fortunately, Adobe agrees with that, and so they recently bought Macromedia to get Dreamweaver and Flash.
